Ice Cream Nachos: Part 2 Electric Boogaloo
You may recall a post I did back in June that highlighted the tasty treat of Ice Cream Nachos (Evandebacle also did a similar post)
We are so far ahead of the curve and super cool. Today the Tribune (at least the on-line version) has a piece on the treat.
First of all, this guy is a moron. Of course crispy chips would "wilt as they get soggy", they are chips, under soft-serve ice cream! Duh. Also, is it a shocker that when it is warm it becomes "sort of soup"? Again, it is soft-serve ice cream, you can't set that aside and munch on it over the course of an hour or two, you need to eat frozen treats right away. I think this is common knowledge. Sure, it isn't some posh pastry from an upscale restaurant but for $5 when you are at a sports park it is a pretty good equivalent.
Ice cream nachos: Don't let 'em melt

When At Play heard about Toyota Park's hot concession item, ice cream nachos--a sweet conjured up by Ian Orr, a chef with Levy Restaurants--there was only one thing to do: Send a glutton.
It's more than an experience; it's an edifice, a traveling road show--it's the ice cream nachos.
"What's that, and where did you get it?" was the reaction spawned by this colossus as I walked along the upper level at Toyota Park, the Chicago Fire's new home stadium in Bridgeview. Truth to tell, I would have asked, too, had I seen this $5 monster, which is: big chip-shaped pieces of a sort of cinnamon flatbread smothered with ice cream and topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and a cherry. The black dish in which it comes is about 6-by-6 inches. You also get a spoon and the best wishes of the person who sells it to you.
It brims with adequacy. The soft-serve ice cream isn't the best, the cinnamon crisps tend to wilt as they get soggy, and when it's warm the whole thing becomes this disgusting sort of soup. Would I do it again? Yes, just because walking along carrying one is like being part of a circus parade. Would I eat one again? No.
They did have a better photo of the treat.
